NHS priorities

Whether it’s to prepare for the next Pharmacy Quality Scheme deadline, or to increase your confidence in helping people with a learning disability, this section provides topic-specific pages that link to current NHS priorities. This section will support you in keeping your knowledge and skills up to date in order to provide high-quality pharmacy services and be service-ready.

Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

Mental health

Transcript

According to the leading mental health charity MIND one in four people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. This means you will meet people who have a mental health problem regardless of your sector or speciality of practice. We also know that chronic physical health problems can trigger mental health issues and vice versa.

Despite the high prevalence of mental health problems there is sadly still much stigma associated with mental health and we all have an important role in changing this. Ensuring that people with mental health problems are treated equally to those with physical health issues is a key element of this. If you avoid consulting with people with mental health problems you have identified a learning and development need for yourself and you are in the right area of our website!

Improving your knowledge about mental illness and developing your skills in consulting with people experiencing mental health problems will provide you with the confidence to help and support people in their recovery and really make a difference to them and their families.

On this page you will find guidance and learning about common mental health disorders including anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
